Marine researcher Antje Boetius shows the central role the oceans play for life on Earth: as a climate regulator, as a habitat, and as a global network of ecological processes – from the surface to the deep sea. As part of the festival theme "Beyond Borders," the finale focuses on the diverse interconnections between sea and humans, science and responsibility. An evening about the importance of the oceans in a time of ecological change – and how closely our future is linked to the future of the seas. Prof. Dr. Antje Boetius is a marine biologist and one of the most internationally renowned researchers in the field of polar and deep-sea research. Since 2025, she has been the president of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in California, one of the world's leading centers for ocean research.
