Description
The discovery of an impressive diversity of exoplanets has fundamentally changed our understanding of the formation and evolution of planetary systems. Didier Queloz shows how these discoveries have reshaped our view of the universe, why planetary systems like our own may be very rare, and what new perspectives this opens up for the exploration of distant worlds. At the same time, it addresses one of the most fascinating questions in science: How can we search for life outside Earth – and what does this search tell us about the origin of life on our own planet? The Swiss astronomer Prof. Dr. Didier Queloz conducts research at ETH Zurich and the University of Cambridge. For the discovery of the first exoplanet orbiting a sun-like star, he, together with Michel Mayor, received the Nobel Prize in Physics. With his discovery, he triggered a revolution in the understanding of planetary systems. Introduction: Prof. Dr. Laura Kreidberg, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy. In cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA).
