The museum, which opened in 2017, is dedicated to the tragic fate of the maid Anna Göldi, who was executed by sword in 1782, and traces the stages of her life. At the heart of the exhibition is the incomparably well-documented trial, in particular the detailed court records. Based on this, visitors are guided from one themed island to another: Witch mania, network of power, enlightenment, journalism, culture of remembrance, rehabilitation.

Temporary exhibition 2024: "Colorful cloths, shared stories - In the footsteps of King Cotton"
Based on a series of headscarves produced in Glarus for the African trade, the temporary exhibition focuses on textile production as a subject of a history shared worldwide since the 18th century. It not only takes us back to Anna Göldi's time, marked by social upheaval, but also directly into the heart of current human rights debates.

With a diverse and engaging program, the museum addresses current topics—especially in the area of human rights—and thus creates a bridge to the present.

The modern museum is housed in the historically unique and impressive Hängg Tower. Although the term "tower" is misleading. In reality, the exhibition space is a large, fantastic, almost sacred-looking hall where printed lengths of fabric were hung to dry during the heyday of the Glarus textile industry. The museum is located in the Ennenda district and can be reached on foot from Ennenda railway station in about 10 minutes and from Glarus railway station in about 15 minutes.

From April to October, there is a public guided tour of the permanent exhibition for individuals on the first Sunday of each month at 1:45 pm. Participation in the guided tour is included in the admission fee.

Guided tours for groups are available year-round by appointment.
