Cristina Amaranta, Queen of Sweden On the occasion of the 400th birthday of the Swedish Queen Christina, this concert unfolds in word, music, and scenic design the eventful life of Christina of Sweden (1626–1689) – one of the most charismatic personalities of the 17th century and an outstanding figure in women's history. Early marked by a strong spirit and remarkable independence, Christina defied the expectations of her time before her thirtieth year: she refused marriage, abdicated the crown, converted to Catholicism, and left Sweden. She spent the second part of her life in Rome, where she became a dazzling protagonist of artistic and political events. She loved both men and women, equally irritating and fascinating her surroundings, supported artists, and moved confidently among popes and cardinals. The title "Always the Same" refers to the motto of the Amaranth Order she founded, whose members pledged lifelong loyalty to their ideals and renounced marriage. Christina was particularly skilled at staging her public image and consciously shaping her identity as a ruler, a woman, and an individual. The spoken monologues are based on historical sources, including her autobiography, contemporary reports, and her correspondence.
