Sophie Pacini:
Since her concert debut at only eight years old, the young German-Italian pianist Sophie Pacini has conquered the stages of the world's most important concert halls. At the age of 19, she graduated with distinction from the concert examination at the Mozarteum Salzburg's Institute for Highly Gifted. Since then, she has thrilled audiences with celebrated piano evenings at renowned international piano festivals such as the Ruhr Piano Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, and the Lucerne Festival. A very special passion project for the native of Munich is her own festival "Nuancen," which was launched in 2023 and takes place in Sophie's hometown of Aying. Sophie Pacini performs with renowned orchestras such as the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, and the Munich Radio Symphony Orchestra. Her outstanding achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including the International Classical Music Award 'ICMA' in 2017 and the ECHO Klassik as "Young Artist of the Year" (Piano) in 2015. Her albums "In Between" (2018), "Rimenbranza" (2020), and "Puzzle" (2022) stormed directly into the top ten of the German classical charts. With "bittersweet" (2025), Sophie Pacini presents one of her most personal albums to date, continuing her streak of success.
Sophie Pacini has been committed for years to promoting classical music to children and young people and wants to make classical music accessible to everyone, everywhere. Recently, she performed at the largest women's shelter in Bavaria – an engagement she plans to expand nationwide in Germany. A special friendship connects her with the legendary Martha Argerich, with whom she regularly performs duo concerts.
Program:
The mazurka, originating in the 16th century, is originally a Polish folk dance in triple meter, characterized by rhythmic freedom, accent shifts, and an elegant yet earthy expressiveness. Composers from various eras have repeatedly taken up the mazurka and transformed it into sound miniatures between tradition and individual fantasy.
