«ADAM» - Filmmatinée and Discussion

Description

For centuries, women worldwide have been punished for pregnancy outside of marriage. Fathers, however, were not held accountable. The Moroccan director Maryam Touzani tells in her award-winning film «Adam» (2019) about the encounter of the ostracized pregnant woman Samia with the grieving widow Abla. They give each other back their joy of life and strength, which patriarchal society had taken from them. In the discussion, we present the project «Karamtna – Our Dignity», which supports unmarried mothers in Morocco. With Ursula Biondi, we turn our attention to Switzerland, where single mothers were patronized, institutionalized, and forced to give up their children until the 1970s. The event is a cooperation with the Zurich women's rights group of Amnesty International.
