Theater in German with English subtitles. How do we come together as a family? The there and the here have shaped us, yet differently. Words are missing. Where does the detachment from what has shaped us begin? Where do we meet? Honestly and truly? A persistent longing accompanies us. But whether we are brave enough to follow it remains open. In Your Baggage Unattended, a widely shared family finds itself in the transit space between past and possible, between alienation and arrival, between homeland and home. Here, where familiar structures begin to falter, everyone encounters themselves, their own wounds, suppressed longings, and unspoken, intergenerational expectations. Mother and sister, daughter and brother, father and son-in-law – the bonds are diverse and broken. Thus, the interim space becomes a mirror in which questions of responsibility and care press forward. Your Baggage Unattended is the result of a large-scale theater workshop: Extended Cooperation. Around forty theater creators came together at Ballhaus Naunynstraße to learn from each other, receive input from contributors, and create theater from the wealth of encounters. Extended Cooperation was made possible through the prize money of the Federal Theater Award, with which Ballhaus Naunynstraße was honored in 2023 as a 'singular framework' for new practices in theater-making. Two play templates and two workshop productions emerged from this. Your Baggage Unattended is a debut in multiple ways: it is the first play by authors Elona Beqiraj and Jenaba Samura, the result of their first collaboration; and it is the directorial debut of Thu Hoài Tran at Ballhaus Naunynstraße after several dramaturgies at the venue.
