Description
With a new cast The sea is a large collective mirror. A thousand rivers, streams, and brooks pour into it. They dance their way, flowing around stones and undermining structures. Water is dammed until it overcomes obstacles or tears down barriers. Even the brook has something unstoppable about it. We see ourselves in it, liquefied. Water is the oldest of the futuristic mirrors. The dancer and choreographer Fernanda Costa seeks in Caminhos das Águas – Unaufhaltsames Fließen new self-determined images for Black women. The white binary thinking divides the world into opposites, into opposing values. The prevailing order is constraining and devaluing, until self-images become worthless. Together with three Black dancers, the choreographer works on the liquefaction – of categories, movements, and reflections. And on a changed relationship between inside and outside. After all, we are water, at least mostly. Perhaps the body is a state of matter like ice and steam, and like these, a threat to static structures. Caminhos das Águas – Unaufhaltsames Fließen is part of the dance series Wie ich werde, wie ich sein will at Ballhaus Naunynstraße, where three Black choreographers explore important inspirations, solidarities, and connections for the empowerment of self-determined Black femininities. This is Fernanda Costa's choreographic debut at Ballhaus Naunynstraße. A production by Kultursprünge at Ballhaus Naunynstraße gemeinnützige GmbH. The premiere production was created as part of the dance series Wie ich werde, wie ich sein will, funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion of the State of Berlin and the Hauptstadtkulturfonds.
