Description

The celebrated choreographer Xie Xin from Shanghai has already caused excitement in Winterthur and in her new program she deals with two French composers: The first piece of the evening is a choreography to the piano music of the minimalist Erik Satie and afterwards she dedicates herself to Igor Stravinsky's musical masterpiece "Le Sacre du Printemps".

Deeply inspired by Eastern philosophy, Xie Xin explores the duality between gentleness and strength, lightness and heaviness through the reinterpretation of two contrasting musical worlds: In "In Satie" French romanticism merges with Eastern mysticism and transports us into a subtle, detached atmosphere. Satie's "Gymnopédies" and "Gnossiennes" are reinterpreted as a delicate interplay of vibraphone and piano.

In the second part, Stravinsky's "Le Sacre du Printemps" unfolds its powerful energy, giving the dance an intense physical and visual impact. Inspired by the fire that destroyed the studios of her company in 2023, Xie Xin transforms her feeling of powerlessness into a force of survival and humanity. As she herself describes, she was guided by the conviction that "one must look death in the eye to embrace life."
