Description

Elon Musk made the Bernese Oberland world-famous with a single post, without ever having been there himself. In the touring exhibition WTFake, we now see him on the famous bridge of Iseltwald. The image is completely AI-generated; Musk was never there. This twist, from the real post to the invented scene, shows how quickly a fake becomes reality. This directly relates to the theme of the exhibition, with an image developed specifically for Bern. From August 18 to October 11, 2026, the Bern Museum Quarter will host the touring exhibition WTFake curated by the Conscious Influence Hub. The free exhibition in the museum garden (access via Helvetiastrasse 6) contrasts real photographs with AI-generated images. Some pairs of images deal with body images, others with war photography or history. What unites them: they appear familiar at first glance but cause irritation upon closer inspection. The exhibition has been touring since August 2025 across German-speaking Switzerland, connecting art, media education, and contemporary digital issues. The Bern edition was created in close collaboration with the institutions of the Museum Quarter. Two new image pairs were developed specifically for Bern, linking local relevance with global digital dynamics – one of which is the Iseltwald scene with Musk. Accompanying the exhibition, various educational and activation formats will take place. Planned are workshops for school classes, in-depth social media content, guided tours, discussions, and activations in public spaces. All dates will be continuously posted on wtfake.ch.
