Description
On the occasion of Writers in Prison Day, the Swiss PEN Center annually highlights authors who are imprisoned because of their work. For Palestinian writer and essayist Yousri Alghoul, literature is inextricably linked to experiences of war, loss, and displacement. Growing up in the Al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza Strip, he has been writing for nearly two decades about everyday life under occupation – about hope and despair, resilience, and humanity. In conversation with Demian Cornu (interpreted by Zainab Lüscher), Alghoul discusses writing during war, about people in prisons, and those waiting for them. A small booklet with texts translated into German specifically for the event series will be available on site. On the occasion of Writers in Prison Day, the Swiss PEN Center focuses on authors whose freedom is threatened.Highlights
