Description

What is the largest part of our universe made of? What influences the movement of entire galaxies and yet cannot be seen? What exactly is the Xenon experiment, and why must it be conducted underground? You might know xenon as the gas in modern car headlights. But what does it have to do with dark matter? Xenon plays a crucial role in the search for one of the greatest mysteries of the universe. The University of Zurich (UZH) is also involved in the international experiments: the liquid xenon fills the interior of a detector developed and built at UZH, and you can observe this detector live. Research is conducted deep underground. Why and how, you can also learn about above ground with us.
