Lecture with projection - Angelo Purgert. Photographer Angelo Purgert was inspired by the social atmosphere of the First Republic, blending its style with a touch of modernity.
In his work, the author intentionally avoided being influenced by period photographs to not merely replicate the golden age of Czechoslovakia. Instead, he created original photographs that draw from the First Republic but do not confine themselves to it. This applies not only to the arrangement of the scenes but also to the poses of the models, as well as the technical and lighting execution. An important element that adds authenticity to the photographs is the interiors themselves. The photographs capture First Republic cafés such as Louvre, Imperial, Slavia, and Adria, hotels like Art Deco Imperial, Ambassador – Golden Goose, Art Nouveau Palace, and Hotel Paris, as well as the Myšák confectionery, the National Technical Museum, and the Czech restaurant and dance hall Republika. Photography also took place in the Municipal House, a Secessionist gem of Prague architecture, and in the Lucerna Palace. Romantic alleys and parks of old Prague were not excluded either. Polished times full of good manners evoke a sense of nostalgia and a desire to return to them. Angelo Purgert's photographs transport us to the unique period of the First Republic. While viewing them, we find ourselves in places where swing music enhanced social gatherings and expensive perfumes wafted through the air. The photographic project was created between 2009 and 2018, involving nearly 160 people who worked without compensation, thus giving the entire project a charitable dimension. In recent years, charitable exhibitions of 1st Republic have taken place in the Czech Republic and around the world. Their mission is to financially assist children where it is most needed. The exhibitions have been held in very prestigious locations, such as the Municipal House in Prague and the Grand Hotel Pupp in Karlovy Vary. Photographs from this project have also received numerous international awards. ________ The event is part of the exhibition 1st REPUBLIC & ART DECO. Gallery One One invites you to a unique exhibition of contemporary art inspired by the elegance of the First Republic and the aesthetics of Art Deco. The project is organized in collaboration with photographer Angelo Purgert, whose charitable photographic project will be part of the exhibition. The atmosphere of the period will also be complemented by the Aristocrat Vintage exhibition featuring original antique fashion and the Coffee Museum Alchymista exhibition, which will remind us of the history and culture of coffee. The exhibition will connect contemporary art, photography, fashion, and the legacy of the First Republic in one common story.
