Workshop "Songs from Ticino and Northern Italy"

Description

In the course, participants learn two- or multi-part songs related to the main themes of the southern Alpine folk culture: songs from folk liturgy, work songs, emigration songs, lullabies, serenades, and songs in the typical style of "Canto Spontaneo" or "Canto libero".

Additionally, the course group discovers peculiarities and curiosities of the southern Alpine folk song and music tradition. Guided listening, comparisons, interesting facts: the "clichés", the differences between the "Schlager" and the oldest authentic songs, dialects, and much more.

General Information

The workshop takes place at the House of Folk Music in Altdorf UR and is aimed at everyone who wants to deepen their knowledge of the musical folk culture of Ticino, Lombardy, and Piedmont. Participants get to know various traditional songs and gain insights into the regional folk music tradition.
