Pro Senectute Uri (PS UR), in collaboration with the Swiss Red Cross, Cantonal Association Uri (SRK Uri), is organizing the “Day of Age” at Winkel in Altdorf on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the International Day of Older Persons. Under the motto “Together for an age-friendly tomorrow,” the two organizations aim to make an important contribution to a positive image of aging and intergenerational dialogue in the canton of Uri. The morning is dedicated to thanking and appreciating volunteers as well as caregiving and nursing relatives involved in elderly care in the canton of Uri. “Where voluntary commitment meets appreciation, community is created.” After a welcome by Government Councilor Georg Simmen, volunteers will enjoy wonderful storytelling moments with “Rita Clara Furger verzèllt.” The subsequent Apéro riche for invited guests rounds off the morning program. From 1:00 p.m., the festival economy with musical entertainment, led by the upper level of the Seedorf district school, will open in the multipurpose room. It invites everyone to coffee, cake, drinks, and a cozy get-together, dialogue, and exchange of ideas throughout the afternoon. At 1:30 p.m. in the gymnasium, the chairman of the PS UR foundation board welcomes guests to the panel discussion “Impulses for an age-friendly tomorrow.” The discussion is a special program highlight and is moderated by Röbi Koller. It addresses central questions about aging. Look forward to a diverse discussion with influential voices from our society – pointed, reflective, and forward-looking: Viktor Giacobbo (comedian), Stefan Fryberg (former president of Pro Senectute Uri), and Dr. Damaris Aschwanden (head of the Institute for Aging Research at OST) bring different perspectives and encourage reflection – and smiles. To conclude the day, at 5:00 p.m., an Apéro for “young and old” will be served to toast to age with all attendees. Government Councilor Christian Arnold will give closing remarks to those present.

General Information

On October 1, 2026, the “Day of Age” will take place in the multipurpose building Winkel in Altdorf, organized by Pro Senectute Uri and the Swiss Red Cross. The event promotes intergenerational dialogue and offers a varied program with music, coffee and cake, as well as a panel discussion about aging.
