Wives III (Hustruer III)

Description

"Wives III concludes a remarkable trilogy. The three women, who have now surpassed fifty, have experienced disappointment after disappointment, yet they do not give up the search for love, and their irony never turns into cynicism or bitterness. Their zest for life remains unbroken. (…) The film begins with Kaja's birthday, where she tells the attendees: 'This is the first day of the rest of your life. And it starts now.' Becoming aware of the passing time without falling into panic, but with wisdom and a form of hedonism, and not giving up on dreams: this is what gives strength to these three friends, despite illness, the mental decline of a mother, or generational conflicts with a daughter. Wives III addresses various societal issues – racism, violence, the role of education – seamlessly alternating between comedic scenes and touching moments, exuding a unique poetry."
