In the current edition of our edutainment format «Wissen-Saft», meet for a glass with… Tiger Igor! In 1975, the Bern Zoo made a bargain: for only 7000 Deutsche Mark, it purchased two Siberian tigers, a purebred breeding pair, from Karlsruhe. Igor and Nadja quickly became crowd-pullers, especially when offspring could be admired the following year. During his thirteen years in Bern, Tiger Igor experienced social change up close. The favorite became a symbol of youth unrest around the slogan «AJZ subito!», until his keeping as an exotic animal in a much too small concrete cage was criticized in letters to the editor. Historian Roger Sidler (author of «Zoo Animals as Contemporary Witnesses»), actress Katharina Lienhard, and scientific assistant Reto Hagmann report during the tour through the house not only about Igor's eventful life but also reveal the secret of his pedigree. They also explain what the Bärengraben riots and the disappearance of the tiger skull have to do with the zoo and the Natural History Museum.
