ROCK HISTORY AT Z7 Wishbone Ash is undoubtedly one of the most influential bands in the entire history of rock. With their unique dual-lead guitar sound, the English band has had a lasting influence on colleagues from Thin Lizzy to Iron Maiden. Nearly a year after their last Z7 show, the formation around original singer and guitarist Andy Powell returns to Pratteln with songs from almost six decades of band history. They are a regular feature at Z7. Since 2010, Wishbone Ash has performed here eleven times, and we can't get enough. In February 2024, the band was a guest with their “Live Dates 50th Anniversary” tour, in January 2025, the next full dose of Wishbone Ash at Z7, and in February 2026, the fantastic live band from Torquay, England, with their “The Time Was Tour,” returned to Pratteln to delight their fans with their captivating show and a program of all-time favorites. Founded in 1969, Wishbone Ash is now led by the two lead guitarists Andy Powell (the last remaining original member) and Mark Abrahams (since 2017). Bassist Bob Skeat, who has been part of the band for three decades, sets the pace with drummer Windsor McGilvray, who joined the band in 2026. Over the years, the band has experimented with various musical styles, from folk, blues, and jazz to pedal-to-the-metal rock and electronics. But regardless of the style, Wishbone Ash's hallmark remains the unmistakable sound of the two lead guitars, influenced by bands like Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Iron Maiden, and Opeth. There is probably no other formation that has done more with the twin-guitar concept than Wishbone Ash. Live, the band remains a force: Andy Powell still performs on stage with unbridled joy and leads his band confidently through a nearly two-hour journey through the rich back catalog of Wishbone Ash. Our house chroniclers from Diebüehrers.com wrote about the last show: “Musically, the quartet effortlessly spanned the gap between early classics and later material.
