Description

The unique Wiener Johann Strauss Orchestra has been continuing the artistic legacy of the legendary Vienna Strauss Chapel since 1966, after it was dissolved by Eduard Strauss I. in New York in 1901. The grandson and last professional musician of the Strauss dynasty, Eduard Strauss II., revived the idea of the family-owned chapel with the founding of the Wiener Johann Strauss Orchestra. Since then, the orchestra has performed worldwide, showcasing the works of the Strauss dynasty — especially the festive melodies of their artistic ancestors, the two "Waltz Kings," Johann Strauss (Father) and Johann Strauss (Son). It is a great honor to be able to perform in this traditional orchestra. The musicians of the Wiener Johann Strauss Orchestra are members of Austria's most prominent top orchestras, such as the Vienna Symphony, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Tonkünstler Orchestra Lower Austria, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, and the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestra will be conducted by the former Vienna Philharmonic Johannes Wildner, who is one of Austria's most renowned conductors and collaborates with other prestigious orchestras such as Arena di Verona, Prague State Opera, London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony, and Tokyo Philharmonic. The program for this concert at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg includes the lively melodies of the Strauss dynasty, such as Johann Strauss (Son)'s Vienna Waltz "An der schönen blauen Donau." About 200 years after the Vienna Waltz became a staple of cultural life originating from the music city Vienna and spreading worldwide, the Vienna Waltz was recognized in 2017 as an intangible UNESCO World Heritage.
