Description
I visited Mexico a total of 3 times, but now I would like to talk about how I spent a year of my life there. During that year, I fulfilled my dream of traveling every weekend of the year, and I would like to present the joys and challenges I encountered, including my studies at university, which was the primary purpose of my trip. I got to know a total of 13 states (out of 32), saw countless pyramids and monuments, tasted many regional and seasonal dishes, and experienced customs and traditions that one encounters when living locally and having family there. I would like to share what I saw, but mainly what I experienced. I want to talk about where I found the best chocolate, which pyramids are totally underrated and should be seen by everyone, how many times I cried at lunch because it was too spicy, what a student breakfast means (and what all goes into that beer), how I spent Día de los Muertos, how long I had to practice pronunciation for a school presentation on the Aztec gods Huitzilopochtli and Coyolxauhqui, what Feria is and why it’s definitely worth attending, the weirdest thing I accidentally ordered tacos with, how my friend said we were going for a walk and we ended up climbing the sixth highest volcano in Mexico, what I experienced in the Caribbean even though there was sargassum, how I went to Tequila and lost everything except my keys (and then found out they weren't mine), what it means when Mexicans say they are 'going to the cabin for the weekend', how I attended both a fifteenth and a hundredth birthday celebration... In the first half of the talk, we will take a trip from Jalisco through Mexico City to central Mexico, mainly Hidalgo, Puebla, Tlaxcala, through Veracruz and Oaxaca to Chiapas, Quintana Roo, and Yucatán. In the second half, I will talk more about the culture and why I fell in love with Mexico in all seasons, flavors, scents, hustle, and tranquility. There will also be space for questions, including those regarding solo travel, feelings of safety, the best times for traveling, high-altitude hiking, and general tourism, which landmarks are tourist traps and which are truly worth it.
