Description
Architect Jan Flora (1880–1955) was born in Kroměříž but lived in Bílovice nad Svitavou from a young age. After his studies, he became an employee of the Moravian Regional Building Authority in Brno and was appointed a regional engineer in 1909. At that time, he created designs for three villas for prominent builders from the Czech elite in Bílovice. Before World War I, Flora's work focused primarily on designing modern hospitals and health complexes built by the state. In addition, he continued to engage in villa architecture. The forms of Flora's buildings, influenced primarily by his studies in Vienna, uniquely develop the geometric modernism that emerged after 1905 in connection with Art Nouveau. The lecture by art historian Pavla Cenková is part of the series Faces of Brno Architecture, organized by the House of Art of the City of Brno as part of the Brno Architectural Manual.Highlights
