Description
Johann Sebastian Bach's CHRISTMAS ORATORIO is one of the most famous works in European music history and remains impactful to this day in its immediate touching portrayal of the birth of Jesus. For decades, the annual performance at the Hauptkirche St. Katharinen on the Saturday before the 3rd Advent has been a tradition and a 'must-see' for countless visitors during the Christmas season. The special feature of this performance is that all six cantatas, originally intended for six consecutive church services during the Christmas season, are heard on one evening. At 5:00 PM, the cantatas 1-3 are performed, followed by cantatas 4-6 at 7:30 PM. Both concerts can also be attended separately, but purchasing a package offers a significantly discounted admission price. Attendees of the second part have already reported that at the end, a repeat of the famous opening chorus 'Jauchzet, frohlocket' was demanded. People in the audience were also observed singing along with the famous melodies.
