Description

What does home mean in a world that is becoming increasingly digital, faster, and more anonymous? Where do we find security when real encounters become rarer? Can the theater be a home? Based on Tim Krohn's mythical Alpine novel "Vrenelis Gärtli," a theater evening is created that wants to let us experience human and inhuman longings directly. At the center are two unusual characters: Vreneli and Bersiäneli. They move through the hustle and bustle of life – feeling, stumbling, searching. For Vreneli, the journey through the mountain world also becomes a journey inward: Who am I? Where do I belong? Where is my place in this world? The search for identity becomes a search for home – not just as a place, but as a feeling of belonging. They tell, doubt, laugh, reach limits – and in doing so create a world that seems both strange and familiar. Tim Krohn (*1965) grew up as the third child of a Hamburg family in the Glarus region, became a freelance writer after a wild youth as a free jazz saxophonist and eternal student, and lives with the writer Micha Friemel and their four children in the three-hundred-inhabitant village of Santa Maria Val Müstair, right on the border to South Tyrol. His literary works include novels such as "Quatemberkinder," "Vrenelis Gärtli," "Irina's Book of Reckless Love," "To the Sea," the trilogy "Human Emotions," and "The Holy Henni of the Backyards," as well as numerous plays and some opera librettos. Under the pseudonym Gian Maria Calonder, he also wrote eight crime novels set in the neighboring Engadin. For young people, he wrote the novel "We Board an Engadin House" and, together with the illustrator Chrigel Farner, the graphic novel "Pippin the Good-for-Nothing." General Information

"Vrenelis Gärtli" is a play that addresses the search for identity and belonging in a digital world. The story follows the characters Vreneli and Bersiäneli on their journey through the Alps and into their inner selves. The play takes place at the Kellertheater Winterthur and invites the audience to reflect on the meaning of home.
