Our current program is dedicated to the theme of peace, not as a quiet state, but as an active process of rapprochement, listening, and preserving identity. The evening begins where music most directly arises from the community: with folk songs. When the Choir of the Gymnasium Münchenstein sings songs from various countries, it becomes clear that longing, joy, and melancholy are universal human constants. These songs are musical ambassadors of peace, building cultural bridges. With Mozart's Piano Concerto «Jeunehomme», we experience a highlight of musical communication. The work, interpreted by the young virtuoso Dmitry Ishkhanov, breaks with rigid conventions. There is no dictatorship of the orchestra over the soloist here; it is a subtle conversation on equal terms. In this harmonious balance lies a utopia of peaceful coexistence – a play full of respect and mutual inspiration. The second part of the concert belongs to Béla Bartók, whose life and work are deeply connected with the search for peace and integrity. In the Romanian Folk Dances, Bartók celebrates the vitality of rural traditions. For him, engaging with the folk music of various ethnicities was a deeply humanistic project against the rising nationalism of his time. The Divertimento for Strings, created in Swiss exile in 1939, is a moving contemporary witness. Between dance-like lightness and dark shadows, it reflects the fragility of peace immediately before the outbreak of the Second World War. The Chamber Orchestra I TEMPI and the Choir of the Gymnasium Münchenstein invite you to follow these musical paths: from rooting in the homeland through open dialogue to the admonishing hope for a more peaceful world.
