Description

Coincidentally, a wintery small garden becomes a place of refuge and unexpected solidarity for two women who could not be more different. Marianne lands in "New America" because she loses her house and business after her husband's death. The rebellious Didi once again flees from her mother's violent boyfriend to the garden by the river. Their chairman, Mr. Gregor, soon fights for Marianne's attention between ground elder and tomatoes — and against the reclassification of the land into building land. Christina Walker tells with sensitivity and dry wit about improvisation and solidarity, about self-determination and a nature that becomes harder to tame. Christina Walker, born in 1971 in Bregenz, worked for theater, film, and museums in Vienna and Berlin for several years after her studies. Today she lives in Augsburg and Hard on Lake Constance. Her texts have received multiple awards, most recently including the Vorarlberg Literature Prize, the Swabian Literature Prize, and the Netlit Prize of the Munich Short Story Competition. In 2021, her debut novel "Auto" was published, followed in 2023 by "Kleine Schule des Fliegens," which was on the longlist for the Austrian Book Prize.
