Description

Rochus Lussi has been known for decades as an artist, exhibition organizer, art mediator, and performer. Galleries, exhibition venues, and churches in Switzerland and abroad showcase his works. He has also appeared as an artist during studio residencies in Berlin and New York or at the Swiss embassies in Berlin and Havana, and Rochus Lussi repeatedly wins competitions for art and architecture. In all these projects, he succeeds in opening up diverse spaces and attracting a new audience to art. Risk and urgency, courage for beauty as well as ugliness, the creation of relationships between the works and the audience are just some of the characteristics that define the artist Rochus Lussi. The rooms of Galerie Stans are perfectly suited for Lussi's diverse work. New work groups
The exhibition «between here and there» shows the latest work groups of the sculptor. Various animal beings populate Rochus Lussi's «Belle Île». These are animals by the wayside that he encounters on his tours. Lussi combines them with shells and supports that provide humans with stability and recovery. «Belle Île» is an ongoing project that the artist has been working on since 2022. The «Vessels» are a work group that he has been continuously expanding since 2025. They contain surprising contents and stand or hang indoors or in the garden of Galerie Stans. Technically, Lussi is a master of fine work with the chainsaw. He stains the wood with dye, but also draws on the daily sheets in A3 format, which form a red thread in the exhibition in Stans. Finally, the latest works, «Word Rods» titled «Talking is Gold», refer to the indispensability of debating and active listening, as practiced by the indigenous peoples of North America with talking sticks. The series «Sinnklang» in the neighboring parish church combines word and music. On October 31 at 11:30 a.m., Rochus Lussi meets the exceptional musician Balthasar Streiff.
