Jonathan Swift Award Ceremony for Irene Dische

Description

The international Jonathan Swift Prize for satirical and comic literature will be awarded to Irene Dische in 2026. The jury, consisting of publisher Dirk Vaihinger, bookseller Ursula Zangger, and literary scholar Thomas Strässle, states in their justification: "Irene Dische is a keen and insightful observer of society and its mechanisms. With cool compassion, she tells of eccentric personalities of the past, of the inescapability of family psychodynamics, and of misunderstandings in successful life planning. Dische reveals the quirky and sometimes bitter wit as a core element of human activity." The €20,000 prize will be presented at the Literaturhaus Zürich.
