Description
Kashi - one of the ancient names of Benares, or Varanasi - evokes the city "illuminated", a high place of knowledge, spirituality, and fervor.
On the banks of the Ganges, this sacred city in northern India has inspired artists, poets, musicians, and dancers for centuries, in the wake of Shiva, the symbolic guardian of this pilgrimage land. The Benares tradition unfolds here through kathak, a classical dance where rhythmic virtuosity, improvisation, storytelling, and devotion intertwine.
Imagined by Gauri Priscilla Brülhart to celebrate twenty years of career, this creation brings together artists trained under masters of Benares' musical and choreographic tradition.
A sensitive and luminous journey, between music, dance, sharing, and interiority. Concert organized by the Ateliers d’ethnomusicologie and the AMR, with support from the City of Geneva and the South Cultural Fund. Gauri Priscilla Brülhart, choreography, dance, artistic direction
