She wants to testify to Arctic beauty and fragility, searching for our connection to this endangered habitat. To do so, Ulrike Draesner undertakes two journeys with small ships, in summer to Svalbard, in winter from Tromsø through the fjords. Polar day and night open special resonance spaces, and in the outer silence, the unheard becomes audible: living beings, elements, atmospheres that directly touch travelers with sharpened senses, physically, psychologically, and spiritually. In a new, nature-permeable language, the author tells how the Arctic approaches us and can respond to what we are. Prof. Dr. Ulrike Draesner has been teaching since 2018 as a professor at the German Literature Institute Leipzig, after international guest lectures and poetics lectures. She has received numerous awards for her novels, essays, and poems, including the German Prize for Nature Writing 2020 for her first essay from Radio Silence. In 2021, she received the Grand Prize of the German Literature Fund for her entire work. The reading takes place as a dark reading without artificial light.
