For audiences aged 10 and above, masculinity and friendship are put to the test - the new mask-beatbox piece from Berlin Typen – an experimental setup with an open ending – tells the story of four best friends aged between 15 and 18 and a friendship that threatens to break apart as the friends increasingly develop in different directions. The Theater Strahl addresses a highly topical and widely discussed issue in social media: masculinity and belonging. While traditional gender roles and patriarchal structures are questioned and broken down in current debates, boys and young men face the challenge of finding (new) role models. What images do they grow up with today, what orientation options are offered to them, how freely can they find and invent themselves? And how does all this affect friendships and our societal coexistence? An interesting aspect of the play with gender roles on stage is that behind the types and their masks is a purely female ensemble.
