Description
The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band is a three-member American country-blues band from Brown County, Indiana. The band formed in the mid-2000s in Bloomington, Indiana, around frontman Reverend Peyton (vocals, guitar), born in 1981. He is joined by his later wife Breezy (washboard) and Jacob Powell (drums).
The three-time BMA-nominated The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band is considered “the best front porch blues band in the world.” They are led by Reverend Peyton, whom many regard as one of the best fingerpickers of modern times. He has earned a reputation as both a uniquely captivating artist and a compelling 'evangelist' for the down-to-earth country-blues style that early inspired his imagination and led him and his band to pilgrimage to Clarksdale, Mississippi, to learn from blues masters like T-Model Ford, Robert Belfour, and David “Honeyboy” Edwards. Their album 'Dance Songs For Hard Times' reached number 1 on the Billboard, iTunes, and Sirius XM Blues charts and was produced by Grammy winner Vance Powell (Jack White, Chris Stapleton). The album received high praise from Rolling Stone, Relix, Popmatters, Guitar World, American Songwriter, No Depression, Glide, Wide Open Country, Paste, American Blues Scene, and many others! The current studio album Honeysuckle was released in February 2025. 'Honeysuckle' was produced and recorded by Reverend Peyton himself and also mixed by Vance Powell (Chris Stapleton, Jack White). The album features numerous guest musicians, including the gospel group The McCrary Sisters on the song 'Manger', blues music hall of famer and Grammy-nominated harmonica player Billy Branch, who contributes to the Blind Lemon Jefferson song 'Nell (Prison Cell Blues)', Grammy winner and ten-time IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year Michael Cleveland on the song 'Freeborn Man', and Colton Crawford from The Dead South on banjo in 'The Good Die Young'.
Their performances are captivating and energetic, their music blends blues, folk, and punk, and their lyrics tell stories of everyday life.
