Professors and Their Master Students - Concert with Historic Hammer Pianos

On Friday, October 2, 2026, at 7:30 PM, the series "Professors and Their Master Students" will continue in the Carl Bechstein Hall. Prof. Dmitry Ablogin and Chikako Miyado will present a finely tuned program on historic instruments from the foundation. Works by Haydn, Schubert, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn will unfold their special sound beauty on original pianos by Anton Walter (1780), Matthias Müller (1810), and Johann Baptist Streicher (1834). Before the concert, two guided tours at 5:45 PM and 6:30 PM will allow visitors to view the collection of historic keyboard instruments. Admission is free. Chikako Miyado was born in Hiroshima, Japan. After completing her bachelor's degree in Tokyo, she continued her studies in 2018 at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, where she initially completed her master's in solo piano. In 2023, she completed her concert exam there with Prof. Fabio Bidini and Prof. Sheila Arnold, followed by a master's in piano chamber music with Prof. Anthony Spiri in 2024. Since 2024, she has also been studying Historic Keyboard Instruments (Fortepiano) in the class of Prof. Dmitry Ablogin in Cologne. She is a prizewinner of numerous piano competitions and regularly performs at festivals in Japan, Poland, Italy, and Germany. As a soloist, she has performed with the South Westphalia Philharmonic and several times with members of the Duisburg Philharmonic. Besides her solo activities, she is deeply involved in chamber music. Together with Denis Walter Olejak, she forms a piano duo that was awarded a scholarship from the Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation. They have also been included in the "Best of NRW" support program, performing at numerous concert venues across North Rhine-Westphalia in recent years. Additionally, they recorded for Westdeutscher Rundfunk and performed together with the Bonn Philharmonic Choir. Since October 2025, she has been receiving a Clavichord as a scholarship holder from the Piano Museum Haus Eller, deepening her engagement with historic keyboard instruments. Dmitry Ablogin is considered one of the most brilliant and creative musicians of his generation. As a prizewinner of numerous international competitions—including the 10th International German Pianists Competition, the International Chopin Competition for Historic Instruments, and the International "Musica Antiqua" Competition—he captivates audiences worldwide. He has performed at renowned venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Cologne Philharmonic, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Hamburg Laeiszhalle, Vienna Concert Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Freiburg Concert Hall, Vancouver Playhouse, Edinburgh Queen’s Hall, and Glasgow City Halls. As a soloist, he has performed with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century. His discography includes award-winning recordings, such as Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations, recorded on both a modern concert grand and a historic hammer piano, Chopin’s late works on his last instrument, chamber music by César Franck with the Eliot Quartet, and songs by the Mendelssohn siblings with soprano Kateryna Kasper.
