Description

Lukas Bärfuss and Gwendolyn Masin embark on a journey to the East: With music and text, they follow cultural traces that have shaped Europe. The texts that Bärfuss reads, while Gwendolyn Masin brings her impressions to life on the violin and with a small orchestra, were picked up between Minsk, Odessa, Istanbul, and Sarajevo.

This route avoids main roads, following mule tracks and back paths. There, you find people who had to leave their homeland, there we hear the songs of nomads, the melodies of widows and orphans, the singing of the persecuted and displaced. They tell of the rise and fall of empires, the last morning in the old home, the first evening in a strange bed, the borders to be overcome, the smuggled goods, the lost children, and the love found again.
