Description
Participants and additional information: The Palestinian poet Mona Al Assi and the Syrian prose author Zaher Al Jamous have been living in Switzerland for over ten years. Both write in their native language, Arabic. Their texts are shaped by the memory of their homeland and the inner turmoil of exile. In their monological prose texts and poems, they map spaces between loss and the present, giving their experiences a personal story and language. The Arabic-German reading and discussion evening will be musically accompanied by Christian Moser on the Oud. Mona Al Assi was born as a Palestinian in the Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria. She studied English literature at the University of Damascus, worked as an editor for radio and television programs at several media channels in Dubai, and has worked as a journalist for various Arabic newspapers. She has been living in Switzerland since 2011. Mona Al Assi has made a name for herself primarily as a poet and has participated in numerous international poetry festivals. Zaher Al Jamous was born in Syria in 1978. She studied English literature at the University of Damascus. She is a journalist, worked for Syrian television, and taught English at Syrian schools. Al Jamous fled to Switzerland with her three children to find a second home in Bern. She is an author at lucify.ch, a member of the vox mundi team at Radio RaBe, and studies Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Bern. Here you can find the flyer in German and Arabic.
