Space missions to distant worlds – how do you control satellites? How do you fly a satellite mission? How do you maintain contact over millions of kilometers? How do data reach Earth and how can ever-increasing data volumes be moved in the future? At the ESA Satellite Control Center in Darmstadt, missions are managed that no one else in Europe can carry out: unique, experimental flights to explore our planet, missions that provide important data on climate and the environment, or missions that take Europe beyond Earth – to the Sun, the Moon, Mars, and deep into the solar system. The teams operate spacecraft in orbit, manage ESA's global ground station network, and develop software and technology for mission control. The TECHNOarena Late Shift offers tech enthusiasts the opportunity for personal and interactive exchange with researchers about future technologies currently under development.
