Deep friendships – As a leading violist of her generation and influential educator, Tabea Zimmermann knows from experience the unifying power of making music together. Her instrument often plays a mediating role in chamber music: balancing, dialoguing, supporting. The audience can therefore expect harmonious interaction when Tabea Zimmermann completes the artistic companions Jean-Guihen Queyras and Javier Perianes into a high-caliber trio. The program celebrates the sparks of inspiration generated by the meeting of musically excellent personalities. The famous Clara Schumann performed with Joseph Joachim, twelve years her junior, as often as with anyone else. Since 1843 on stage together, their contact intensified around 1853 into a friendship – in the same year, Joachim introduced the married couple Schumann to an exciting young pianist named Johannes Brahms. The friendship of the four exceptional figures lasted until the end of their lives and left traces in numerous compositions – such as Joachim’s Brahms-dedicated "Hebrew Melodies" and Clara Schumann’s "Three Romances," which Joachim annotated with performance markings and phrasing instructions. Brahms was also inspired by friendships throughout his life, whether through the singing art of Joachim’s wife Amalie or through the Meiningen clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld, who inspired late masterpieces like the clarinet trio, also authorized for viola.
