Beethoven for Children – The Creatures of Prometheus The Greek myth of Prometheus is one of the most well-known myths of antiquity and inspired Ludwig van Beethoven to his ballet music The Creatures of Prometheus. In a shortened version for small ensemble with narration, the story comes alive for children. Prometheus creates the first humans and brings them to life with divine fire, although Zeus has forbidden this. But his creatures are initially awkward and ignorant. Only through encounters with the god Apollo and the Muses do they learn to live. Beethoven's music makes the development of the creatures audible: from the first hesitant touches, through anger and danger, to the power of art. This concert shows children how music can tell stories and what role music and art play in our lives.
