... it's not exactly a nordic poetic folk rock band ... It's a daring bunch that takes the stage. As if they just emerged from the enchanted twilight of endless Scandinavian forests. Figures in black with bowler hats. Seven gentlemen in total, who pick up their instruments to bring the literature of Norway to life musically. Ljodahått is the collective led by Norwegian Magne Håvard Brekke. Musicians, actors, and composers from across Europe who have set both old and contemporary Norwegian poems to music, from the Edda and Henrik Ibsen to Tarjei Vesaas and Olav H. Hauge. Ljodahått is characterized by an original and peculiar blend of different musical styles. Nordic song forms meet folk, jazz, and rock. The band name is well chosen. For the Norwegian word Ljodahått stands for an old Nordic meter, but can also be translated as “song of the trolls.” Thus, the music of Ljodahått has something lyrically beautiful, sometimes even fairy-tale-like, only to then shift into a rough, wild, and unrefined sound. Ljodahått sings exclusively in Norwegian. However, even before an international audience, this becomes irrelevant after just a few songs. Short introductions and projections in the respective national language help to understand the lyrics. Above all, it is the music that immerses the listeners in the stories and poetry of Norway.
