Description
Tom and Louise meet weekly in a pub: ten dialogues, ten drinks, ten brutally honest conversations before the couple switches sides of the street to attend couples therapy sessions to save what can still be saved. The two exceptional actors Johanna Wokalek and Tjark Bernau make this production an event!
The dramatic potential of a marriage crisis is humorously and yet profoundly shown by cult author Nick Hornby in «State of the Union». Quickly and pointedly, he has the doctor and the music critic discuss the normal madness of their cohabitation. After a sex drought and an affair, they try to gain clarity in couples counseling about what their marriage might still hold. We see them just before the sessions, when, over a comforting drink, they bluntly outline the topics. In their clever, open dialogues, fundamental questions about human coexistence are almost casually addressed.
Johanna Wokalek and Tjark Bernau masterfully portray how Louise and Tom go through crises that many experienced couples will surely recognize.
