Description
The exhibition invites visitors to explore the timeless world of traditional costumes and examine their cultural significance throughout the centuries. Selected objects are used to illustrate how traditional costumes have evolved from an everyday garment to a consciously cultivated form of cultural expression. The focus is on the festive and Sunday attire of the Ausserrhoden and on the workday costume, which was created in 1925 based on a design by Paul Tanner and has remained virtually unchanged to this day. The characteristic elements combine historical influences with a high degree of precision and craftsmanship. The exhibition provides insight into the meaning of traditional costumes, showcases their diversity, and allows visitors to experience how tradition remains alive—supported by people who still maintain and pass on this cultural heritage today.
