Cantautrice – Singer-Songwriter – Liedermacher: they all want to describe it, that hybrid between music and poetry. But is it a being? Or is it a place? In Sophie Hunger's musical fantasy "Rise and Fall at Hotel Hunger," we are taken there, we bloom and disintegrate in a life between music and words, body and mind, intoxication and senses. In a single night, from sunset to dawn, Sophie Hunger, with her multi-voiced ensemble, traverses rooms, time zones, and identities in search of the new morning. The singer-songwriter combines what opera separates: composition, libretto, and interpretation. Her ensemble also merges time and genre boundaries; recorders, synthesizers, Western guitar, and celesta give voice to the divided tongues of our chests. Sophie Hunger debuts this evening at the Zurich Opera – and with her, the art of modern song.
