Sommer in Grengiols

Description

Arthur Rosatti (1916-2005), a printer from Biel/Bienne, came every summer with his family to Grengiols, the birthplace of his wife Anna (née Walpen). The family, consisting of their three children and Rosatti's elderly mother, arrived by train. Luggage was transported from the station to the village by horse-drawn cart. From the 1960s onwards, Rosatti travelled from Biel to Grengiols by Vespa. On the luggage rack, this passionate photographer carried his photo and video equipment, consisting of the legendary medium-format Rolleiflex, a small-format Exakta, a camera and a tripod. At the end of the vacation weeks, it took many hours to bring to life these moving testimonies of Grengiols village life in the bathroom transformed into a photo lab, and on the kitchen table of the small Biel apartment. Arthur Rosatti takes us on a fascinating journey back in time to the heart of the last century. The exhibition features images from Grengiols' Rosatti archives, and was produced in collaboration with Peter Rosatti, the photographer's son.
