Dedication and beautiful sound – With her sincere dedication to music, combined with interpretative intelligence, beautiful sound, and fabulous technique, Sol Gabetta has long conquered the world far beyond die-hard classical fans. For years, she has been supported by the French pianist Bertrand Chamayou when it comes to sensitively crafted chamber music. Two joint recordings document this equally inspiring and inspiring partnership. At the Albert concerts, the close friends are to be experienced with a program that makes the creative togetherness particularly audible. Sergei Rachmaninoff's Opus 19 was originally not even called "Cello Sonata" by the composer, as this designation hardly did justice to the equal parts of piano and cello. Thus, a work of symphonic density unfolds, in which both instruments are equally challenged. Truly, it takes a pianist like Chamayou to handle the awe-inspiring piano part – the work that Rachmaninoff himself premiered in 1901. In a different way, but no less intensively, the instruments engage in dialogue in Benjamin Britten's Cello Sonata composed for Rostropovich with its dramatic unconditionedness. Also, Witold Lutosławski's short "Grave," dedicated to the memory of a Polish music researcher, combines analytical work with short motifs into a large arc. The finale is Edvard Grieg's melodically softer, but no less intense, Cello Sonata, dedicated to his older brother John and created during a phase when the composer was driven from his peaceful environment into the vibrant life: "I must see and hear and speak about art!" An statement almost like from Sol Gabetta's mouth. Program:
