Description
In spring 2027, the Vitra Design Museum will focus on the timeless and ever-relevant subject of human sleep. Starting from the inquiry into how sleep is characterized by culture, design, economy, and technology, the exhibition explores its role in contemporary societies. How have artificial lighting and modern work frameworks changed our sleep habits? What consequences do digitization and constant accessibility have? How can design contribute to good sleep? The change in human biorhythms, the evolution of beds and sleep environments, as well as cultural concepts of the body, intimacy, and dreams are at the center of the exhibition. At the same time, it sheds light on the sociopolitical conditions that influence our access to sleep and connects works from the fields of design, art, architecture, literature, and film with discoveries from sleep science. A fascinating look at this third of our lives that we spend asleep – yet which remains largely unknown to us.
