Description
"Connections": Works by Brahms, Elgar, and Valentino Worlitzsch as Solo Cellist How do we connect with the world? Through encounters, communication, and art. Music creates a space of special resonance: it unites people, allows thoughts and emotions to exchange, and makes audible what moves us. With its concert program Connections, the Felix Mendelssohn Youth Orchestra explores this question and presents two works in the Elbphilharmonie that tell of connection and musical togetherness in very different ways. Conducted by Clemens Malich, the orchestra dedicates itself to Johannes Brahms' 4th Symphony. With its combination of dramatic power, lyrical beauty, and masterful form, it is considered a highlight of Brahms’ symphonic work and one of the most significant works of Romanticism. The second focus of the program is Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto, whose melancholic beauty and intense expressiveness make it one of the most important works in its genre.
Valentino Worlitzsch, with his ability to shape every musical phrase with intensity and naturalness, is one of the outstanding cellists of his generation. His playing is often described as immediate, compelling, and free from superficial effects. This direct connection between musician, work, and audience can be experienced in the concert hall. His expressive and sensitive playing also thrives on musical dialogue and direct connection with his fellow musicians. In this way, he embodies the idea of Connections in a special manner.
Connections, however, on this evening, stands for much more than just playing together on stage: for listening and reacting, for mutual inspiration, and for the special energy that arises when many individuals come together in harmony. This is also what the music initiative The Young ClassX e. V. stands for, founded by the Otto Group and the ensemble Salut Salon. Since 2008, the music promotion program has reached more than 40,000 children and young people through choir and orchestra projects as well as MusikMobil trips.
