Description

«On the way home from a wedding, photographer Tun and his girlfriend Jane accidentally run over a young woman on a dark, deserted road. Unsure of what to do, Tun suggests they flee the scene. A few days later, he notices that the photos from his latest assignment are marred by light streaks and the ghostly presence of the dead girl. (…) The couple faces a mystery when they learn that there was no report of a death or a body for that night. Thailand's latest foray into the realm of the supernatural is heavily influenced by Japanese horror traditions, and the story is best explained by its original title Sutter Kodtid Winyan, which loosely translates to 'Press the shutter and you will see a ghost.' Had Tun and Jane acted civilly, the film could have been a drama. But they flee, and in a horror film, the decision to avoid responsibility for one's actions always leads to terrible consequences. (…) Shutter is the feature film debut of Parkpoom Wongpoom and Banjong Pisanthanakun, who have seamlessly integrated the essence and art of photography into their work.» (Brandon Wee, Viennale 2025) Contributors and additional information: Director: Banjong Pisanthanakun, Parkpoom Wongpoom Screenplay: Parkpoom Wongpoom, Banjong Pisanthanakun, Sophon Sakdapisit Cinematography: Niramon Ross Music: Chatchai Pongprapaphan Editing: Manop Boonwipas, Lee Chatametikool Cast: Ananda Everingham (Tun), Natthaweeranuch Thongmee (Jane), Achita Sikamana (Natrenapa Chan-Ngam), Unnop Chanpaibool (Tonn)
