1939: At the Warsaw theater of the acting couple Josef and Maria Tura, "Hamlet" is on the program. As the German invasion advances, the theater is closed by censorship, and dark times lie ahead for the troupe. When a young bomber pilot asks for their help to catch a spy, the hour of acting strikes: Josef Tura slips into the role of his life and transforms into a Gestapo officer. In the Polski Theater, redecorated as the Gestapo headquarters and populated by Nazi actors, a crazy game begins, literally about to be or not to be, life and death. Ernst Lubitsch shot his iconic comedy "To Be or Not to Be" in 1942 in American exile.
