The Basel-based theater creator and author Ariane Koch wrote "The Imposition," one of the most exciting debuts of 2021, awarded the aspekte Literature Prize.
"The author from Basel has created a language with her debut novel that I want to immerse myself in again and again. The protagonist of the book lives in a house inherited from her parents, and soon a guest moves into one of the rooms. He quickly feels at home, merges with the couch, and makes his presence felt to the hostess. The hostess initially feels elevated, enjoys it a little when the guest takes care of the household, but her hospitality soon feels somewhat strained. Who benefits from whom and who ultimately gives in is not always clear here." (Lea Schlenker) Ariane Koch, born in 1988, studied fine arts, interdisciplinarity, as well as some semesters of philosophy and theater studies in Basel and Bern. She writes theater, performance, and prose texts – often in collaboration with the theater group GKW (Moïra Gilliéron, Ariane Koch, and Zino Wey) or the artist Sarina Scheidegger.
