Sculpture Park in the Stein Egerta

Description

The Stein Egerta sculpture garden is closely linked to the history of the Liechtenstein State Art Collection and the Liechtenstein Art Museum. Until the opening of the Kunstmuseum in 2000, the sculptures placed in various locations throughout the country were a very effective means of making works of art permanently accessible to the public. In 1995, Georg Malin, then curator of the State Art Collection, set up this sculpture garden from the holdings of the State Collection in the garden of the Stein Egerta Education House. On this occasion, the sculptor Claus Bury was also commissioned to create a site-specific sculpture. This is located on the slope opposite the large flight of steps in the park of the Bildungshaus and bears the name "Stufenschichtung". Today, Bury's sculpture forms the "Stein Egerta Sculpture Garden" with five other works of art. These include "Pliage C 57", created in 1999 by the Zurich artist Gottfried Honegger, then already over 80 years old, and a work "untitled" by the German Erwin Heerich with his typical geometric design. "Aquarius" by the Vaduz-born Hanna Roeckle is a free interpretation of a tetrahedron, covered with an iridescent varnish. "Phantheatron" by the Swiss Kurt Sigrist is a powerful cube made of steel, one half of which opens vertically and the other horizontally. "Usagi Kannon" by the Japanese-Swiss painter, graphic artist and sculptor Leiko Ikemura is a figure of silence in which culture and nature combine according to Japanese custom. The sculpture garden is freely accessible.
