Christa Baumberger, exhibition curator and Glauser expert, guides through the exhibition and the worlds of fear of Nando von Arb and Friedrich Glauser. «An invisible creature sucked on me, grew, crouched in the stomach ...». The feeling that Glauser describes in retrospect of his childhood is all too familiar to the artist Nando von Arb. In the graphic novel «Learning to Fear» (Edition Moderne 2023), he has captured his own fears and dealing with them in colorful stories: nocturnal monsters, fear of illness and death, but also states of intoxication and therapies. For the exhibition, he has for the first time dealt with Glauser's childhood memories and created multi-layered drawings. During the tour with Christa Baumberger, we follow these powerful images of fear: a dwarf pyramid, parents as weeping willows, or Glauser in a pressure cooker – what story do they tell? What did childhood fears around 1900 and 2000 look like, and how do today's fears reflect those of the past? And what do we take from our own childhood? Christa Baumberger has a doctorate on Glauser and was from 2009 to 2018 his estate curator at the Swiss National Library's Literature Archive. Since 2018, she has been leading Litar. She has curated several exhibitions on Glauser and is the editor of the collection of letters «Jeder sucht sein Paradies …» (Limmat Verlag 2021).
